CFCC case scenario 1
During a national conference, staff member Greta meets Fatima, a volunteer from a community food center.
Fatima says, “I started volunteering 22 months ago, basically right when a bunch of things changed all at once in my life. I started transitioning, I went through a legal name change, I got kicked out of my house, I moved to Hamilton… Volunteering was the only thing that stayed steady. It kept me getting up every morning, you know?”
Greta says, “Wow. Good for you! And thank you for the amazing work you do.”
Later, Greta asks you, “Hey, did you know that Fatima used to be boy? I wouldn’t ever be able to tell; she’s got it down! Do you know what her boy name was? I didn’t get a chance to ask her”.
