CFCC case scenario 2
During the lunch break of a full-day, in-person meeting with a few member organizations, news arrives about a mass shooting in a Chicago suburb. 2 people were killed and many more injured when an attacker started shooting at queer and trans protesters outside a public library. The protest was against the library’s decision to keep materials with LGBTQIA content in a separate area and off limits to patrons under 16.
By the time the lunch break is over, meeting attendees had all caught wind of the news from various sources. One participant who had earlier shared that she was queer and American got up abruptly and ran to the bathroom with tears in her eyes. A CFCC staff member followed her and they returned together in a few minutes.
At the next break, Jackson goes up to Ginny and says, “Hey, are you doing OK? I saw you run out earlier”.
Ginny says, “That wasn’t me. That was Hannah”.
Jackson is taken aback. He realizes he had mistaken the two queer people for each other. He scrambles, “Oh, shoot, I guess you two look alike. Sorry”.
Despite looking nothing alike, Ginny says, “Hahaha… Yeah, no, it’s ok”.
